Position Description

As a critical member of U.S. Soccer, the Major Gifts Officer (MGO) is charged with generating significant philanthropic support in the region.  The individual is responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gift prospects and also participates in donor stewardship activities.  The MGO manages a regional portfolio of approximately 150 donors and prospects capable of making a gift of $10,000+ and identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards these very important colleagues of U.S. Soccer. 

 Primary Responsibilities

  • In consultation with the CAO, establish an annual operating plan with measurable performance objectives linked to U.S. Soccer fundraising goals
  • Manage all aspects of the gift cycle including:
  • Initiate contacts with potential major gift donors
  • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies (e.g., in-person visits, telephone, email, and events)
  • Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure
  • Make solicitations when appropriate
  • Maintain stewardship contacts with donors (e.g., attend U.S. Soccer events; FIFA World Cups)
  • Monitor all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations
  • Work collaboratively with Development Department staff to organize and host special events
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree; Masters preferred
  • 3+ years with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts of $10,000+
  • Passion for the sport of soccer
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Willing to travel
